Best and Worst

Best Thing of Today
We’re going away, going away, going away on a lovely holiday – to the beach to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary

Worst Thing of Today
The packing and the organising and the planning and the figuring out what to do with the fish and cats…oh well, we’re going away, going away, going away šŸ™‚

Best and Worst

Best Thing of Today
Oddly enough, mowing the backyard by myself in the grey and overcast Saturday morning air was pretty cool

Worst Thing of Today
Oddly enough, the thing I thought would be the ‘Best Thing’ – the chocolate chip cookies (HL’s favourite) I made – turned out pretty crappy

Best and Worst

Best Thing of Today
I love the feeling of a new haircut

Worst Thing of Today
The whole palaver of trying to fix our fish tank so we stop killing fish – relocating the fish, thoroughly cleaning out, changing the water, removing a suspicious fake plant, adding a new air pump andĀ new chemicals, and etcetera, etcetera, etcetera…well…I didn’t do a lot of it, actually, it was mostly HL, but it was still annoying

Funny Things Said By My Husband

HL, wandering into the room and picking up a clear plastic bag: What’s this? Where did this come from?

Me: I dunno, probably from out of one of the multiple boxes of ‘new stuff’ that we got for Christmas.

HL: Hmmm…no, I don’t think so…I think I know what it is…

Me: Oh yeah, what would that be?

HL, pulling the bag over his head and grinning goofily: It’s my spaceman helmet!

Me: Well, just don’t suffocate in your ‘spaceman helmet’.

HL: Suffocate? Of course not: spaceman helmets let you breathe…and get dizzy…and see spots in front of your eyes…and turn everything kinda black…

Me: Right, well, spaceman, take your ‘spaceman helmet’ off before you die.

HL: Oh fine…

Aaarggghhh…if I don’t post these now I will surely forget.

Worst Thing of Today (Tuesday, 30 December, 2008 )
The heat as we came into Sydney, oh my goodness, the heat

Best Thing of Today (Tuesday, 30 December, 2008 )
The joy of seeing old friends – like a big cup of cold water on a sweltering day

Best Thing of Today (Wednesday, 31 December, 2008 )
A riotously joyous New Year’s Eve – prawns on the barbie, much wine, the wisdom of growing children, the ease and hilarity of celebrating with old friends

Worst Thing of Today (Wednesday, 31 December, 2008 )
Disrepectful words from my mouth to HL at the end of the evening

Worst Thing of Today (Thursday, 1 January, 2009)
Tension and angst between friends, the feeling of aloneness

Best Thing of Today (Thursday, 1 January, 2009)
The relief of getting back to our private accomodation – just HL and I

Worst Thing of Today (Friday, 2 January, 2009)
Being transportless, and reliant on the schedule, and timing, and organisation (lack thereof) of others

Best Thing of Today (Friday, 2 January, 2009)
Mall time – aimless and relaxed wandering/shopping/eating/bonhomie with HL, and then a ‘Silver Service’ movie experience (yay capitalism!)

Also, the most awesome gastronomic delight at a new Japanese fusion restaurantĀ -clean, thoughtful, interesting, complex flavours

Best Thing of Today (Saturday, 3 January, 2009)
Birthday celebrations

Worst Thing of Today (Saturday, 3 January, 2009)
Resentfulness about manipulativeness

Worst Thing of Today (Sunday, 4 January, 2009)
HL had to go home, while I stayed in Sydney

Best Thing of Today (Sunday, 4 January,2009)
My friend preached a helpful and considered sermon

Also, support and understanding fromĀ a friend

Best Thing of Today (Monday, 5 January, 2009)
The joy of watching the ‘growing-up’ of children

Worst Thing of Today (Monday, 5 January, 2009)
The uncertainty of organising a lift home with a friend – my timing was based on her timing, which was based on the timing of the car dealership who were delivering her new vehicle (which was my lift home)

Worst Thing of Today (Tuesday, 6 January, 2009)
Frustration again with the reliance on others for movements – never can quite end up where I want to be at the time I want to be there (and sometimes not even sure if I can get there at all)

Best Thing of Today (Tuesday, 6 January, 2009)
More visiting of friends (and their city chickens *smile*)

Also, the unexpected (and delicious) hospitality of another set of friends

Also, the joy of a child when he found out I was staying an extra day (and his comment – ‘Thank you Lord!’)

Also, long, and late into the night, unburdenings of the heart with my lovely friend

Best Thing of Today (Wednesday, 7 January, 2009)
Going home, home, home!

Worst Thing of Today (Wednesday, 7 January, 2009)
Missed my lastĀ chance to do 2 things I REALLY wanted to do in Sydney (have sushi, and use my gift card to a local bookstore) due, again, to reliance on others’ timing

Also, felt quite car sick for part of the journey home

HL grumpy when I got home

Best Thing of Today (Thursday, 8 January, 2009)
Sleeping in (in my own bed), no commitments to do anything, or be anywhere

Worst Thing of Today (Thursday, 8 January, 2009)
HL still kinda grumpy, which led to insecurity at my end

Worst Thing of Today (Friday, 9 January, 2009)
Had to begin the mammoth task of cleaning up the craziness that is Christmas decorating at our house

Best Thing of Today (Friday, 9 January, 2009)
10th wedding anniversary…well…it’s really tomorrow (we got married in the US, so, with the time difference, it’s really tomorrow), but the date is today, so we went out to celebrate with my parents – and they gave us a huge gift. We’ve been paying off large debts for some time (accrued due to having to live off – and pay the mortgage on – credit cards, when business was bad back in Seattle, and the exchange rate coming back to Australia, and etc.) which wereĀ combined into one loan from my parents when we came back to Australia. A note in their anniversary card to us said that they had reduced the debt by $15,000, which takes it down to about $3,000. We are very blessed

Also, HL was very kind and thoughtful today

Worst Thing of Today (Saturday, 10 January, 2009)
Frustration over trying to book a ’10th anniversary get-away’ – I hate theĀ minutiae of organising dates, cost, location, and etc.

Best Thing of Today (Saturday, 10 January, 2009)
We ended up booking in a much better place (date, cost, location, and length of stay) than originally planned

Also, an amazing anniversary meal at our new ‘local favourite’ restaurant (wagyu beef, ocean trout, duck, rack of lamb – we are such carnivores)

Also, such kind words from HL in his anniversary card to me

Worst Thing of Today (Sunday, 11 January, 2009)
Packing up 6 large boxes of Christmas crap

Best Thing of Today (Sunday, 11 January, 2009)
We got to watch the first season of The Tudors while doing so

Best Thing of Today (Monday, 12 January, 2009)
Going to a fun and silly movie with HL

Also, we made a fantastic fish dinner in our new rice cooker/steamer

Worst Thing of Today (Monday, 12 January, 2009)
The brand new fish that we bought today for our (HL’s, really) new aquarium are sick and dying (ironic, really…maybe they were protesting our fish dinner)

Best Thing of Today (Tuesday, 13 January, 2009)
Relaxed companionship with HL (including badminton in the backyard, and another excellent fish dinner)

Worst Thing of Today (Tuesday, 13 January, 2009)
Aquarium fish died…HL said that 94.8% died, but it just felt like that, it was only 50% (there seems to be a fishy trend going on here)

Best Thing of Today (Wednesday, 14 January, 2009)
Breakfast with friends, and lunch with different friends (how social am I?…’not very’ is the usual answer)

Also, dreaming – serious dreaming, almost planning – about overseas travel with HL

Worst Thing of Today (Wednesday, 14 January, 2009)
Feeling the end of the school holidays bearing down on me

Worst Thing of Today (Thursday, 15 January, 2009)
Woke up – and continued – feeling dissatisfied with things – house, laziness, time slipping away, and etc.

Best Thing of Today (Thursday, 15 January, 2009)
Finally getting this bloody “Best and Worst list of the last 2 weeks’ posted

Catching Up

I have been visiting in Sydney for a week (still there, back home in a couple of days). I am going to try and remember my ‘Best and Worst’s and add them over the next day or so. I have never been able to keep a diary consistently, and I have been amazed that I have been able to post something every day for such a long time – even if it has only been a ‘highlights and lowlights of the day’ kinda post.
